CMHRB Mini-Grants
To foster a better understanding and awareness of behavioral health issues, six local organizations were recently awarded mini-grants by The Community Mental Health & Recovery Board of Licking and Knox Counties (CMHRB).
These organizations have established small projects that provide creative opportunities for recreational and learning experiences that improve and build upon positive mental health and/or provide alternatives to substance abuse.
In Knox County two (2) applications were funded for a total of $4,720:
$3,220 Mental Health America of KnoxCounty, Steppin' Up Program:
The program is designed to help at risk youth between the ages of 18- 24 gain life building skills, encourage resiliency, and to successfully cope with work, family and community issues.
$1,500 Mount VernonHigh School Academic Booster Club, A.C.E. Award Program:
The purpose is to provide a system for rewarding students who show improvement in and/or demonstrate overall positive attitudes, citizenship and positively contribute to the school environment.
In Licking County four (4) applications were funded for a total of $6,643:
$3,000 Licking Heights South Elementary Music Department, Music Club:
The music club will provide instrumental musical experiences for students in a music camp like atmosphere that will be available after school to engage students that may not otherwise have this opportunity.
$1,565 GranvilleFellowshipSeniorCenter, Preserving Memories Scrapbook and Yoga for Seniors:
The scrapbook project will allow seniors to recall, record and document their life stories through the creation of a scrapbook for mental stimulation, interaction and conversation. Yoga for Seniors will assist in improved balance, lessen depression, & increase strength and flexibility.
$1,000 Newark Area Soccer Association, Score A Goal For Life Project:
The project will create an activity and message for children that incorporates a healthy lifestyle in conjunction with soccer using art to illustrate the connection between sports such as soccer and healthy lifestyle choices.
$1,078 Baskets of Life, Monthly Programs:
The purpose is to educate persons with addictions and mental illness that there are coping methods which they can practice to assist in their recovery, and to provide encouragement and emotional support to live a healthy lifestyle.
